Garmin GWX™ 8000 StormOptix™ Weather Radar

Garmin Introduces StormOptix Weather Radar with Enhanced Compatibility for Thousands of Displays

Garmin is proud to unveil the GWX™ 8000 StormOptix™ Weather Radar, a cutting-edge technology designed to elevate flight safety and situational awareness for pilots. This advanced radar system leverages Doppler technology to provide real-time weather data, ensuring that pilots can navigate through adverse weather conditions with confidence.

The GWX 8000 features automatic settings adjustments that simplify operations, reducing pilot workload and enhancing overall flight safety. With its enhanced compatibility, this state-of-the-art radar can now be seamlessly integrated into thousands of aircraft displays, making advanced weather detection and navigation capabilities accessible to a broader range of pilots and aircraft types. Whether flying a commercial jet or a private plane, pilots can rely on the GWX 8000 StormOptix™ to provide the critical information needed to make informed decisions in the cockpit.

Key Features

  • Doppler Radar with Auto Mode: The GWX 8000 utilizes advanced Doppler radar technology, which automatically adjusts radar settings to profile storm cells in 3D. This automation simplifies operations and reduces the need for manual adjustments, allowing pilots to focus on safe flying.

  • Advanced Prediction Tools: Equipped with features such as turbulence detection, lightning and hail prediction, and optional predictive windshear technology, the GWX 8000 provides real-time insights into weather patterns. These tools help pilots navigate through adverse weather conditions confidently.

  • High-Definition Color Palette: The radar displays up to four times more colors than traditional weather radars, offering a detailed and nuanced view of storm dynamics. This enhanced color palette allows for better interpretation and situational awareness, helping pilots avoid hazardous weather.

  • Ground Clutter Filtering: Advanced algorithms and an onboard terrain database work together to filter out non-weather elements, ensuring a clear and accurate depiction of weather conditions. This feature enhances the radar’s accuracy and reliability, providing pilots with a consistent view of weather patterns.

  • WATCH® Technology: The Weather Attenuated Color Highlight (WATCH) technology identifies areas where radar signals are weakened by intense storm activity, highlighting potential hidden dangers. This feature helps pilots anticipate and avoid severe weather conditions.

  • Zero Blind Range and Low Power Consumption: With the ability to display weather information up to the nose of the aircraft, the GWX 8000 eliminates blind spots. Its all-digital design ensures low power consumption and longer service life compared to older radar systems, making it a cost-effective choice for modern aircraft.

  • Compact and Easy to Install: The radar’s compact all-in-one antenna/receiver/transmitter unit is available in 10”, 12”, or 14” sizes, making it adaptable to various aircraft radomes. This design saves space and simplifies installation, reducing downtime and installation costs.

Upgrade Options

For Part 23 – Class I/II/III aircraft, the GWX 8000 StormOptix weather radar requires a GWX processor (GWX 75), GWX 8000 Enablement and is compatible with GTN 750Xi and GTN 725Xi navigators as well as G500 TXi and G600 TXi flight displays. Aircraft already equipped with the GWX 75 weather radar can have their systems easily upgraded to GWX 8000 with the purchase of this software enablement. Up to two GTN Xi and four G500 TXi or G600 TXi displays installed in the same aircraft can share a single enablement.

For Part 25 and Part 23 – Class IV aircraft, the GWX 8000 StormOptix weather radar requires a GWX processor (GWX 75) and a forthcoming GWX 8000 Enablement. It is compatible with GTN 750Xi and GTN 725Xi navigators as well as G700 TXi flight displays. Up to two GTN Xi and four G700 TXi displays installed in the same aircraft can share a single enablement.
